Newry is situated on the east coast of Ireland on the direct route
between Belfast and Dublin; in fact it is only about four miles from
the border with the Republic of Ireland. It was designated a city
in 2000. Newry nestles in the the valley of the Clanrye River, between
two mountain ranges, the Mourne Mountains and the Cooley Mountains.
The area is steeped in history and provides an excellent base for
visitors to explore South Down and South Armagh, to sample the culture
and the 'craic'.
