Latin

Every Tuesday at 10am
Room 202
Tutor: Lucy Leigh Livingstone
The Latin class has half a dozen most enthusiastic members We are working through The Cambridge Latin Course, following the story of a family living in Pompeii in AD 79. For most of the students, this is revision of a subject studied well over half a century ago. They are enjoying the challenge of looking at the construction of the language with older eyes and realising how many derivations come from the language.
We are also looking at background material; about the role of the family and the socio-political world which the Romans inhabited. Some habits are apparently very similar to those in Newry only fifty years ago, like going to the barbers for a shave.
